last night, the significant other and i had a craving for some bbq. though we differ on the meaning of bbq, she doesnt eat pork, whereas i believe in the religion of spare ribs, we both, very much so, have a great appreciation a good, slow cooked meal.
i heard a great deal about mephis minnies, so after the nearly mission impossible task of finding parking in the haight, we made our way into our much awaited bbq meal.
my st louis style ribs were dry, more beef jerky than anything else. i had a hard time finding any trace of a good rub flavor. it seemed as though the ribs were sitting out for a VERY long time and had completely dried out. my meal was basically bbq sauce with traces of no dry rub, st louis style beef jerky.
her beef brisket wasnt too bad, but nothing to get excited about. it was a bit overly smoked, but at least her food had flavor. when her brisket was drowned in sauce, it at least tasted like bbq and had traces of some sort the natural juices of the beef.
the rest of the plate, the side dishes, i really have nothing to say about them except that the seasoned fries were not bad, but you cant go wrong with jack in the box style seasoned fries. (step one, take out of freezer, step two, fry)
perhaps, we went on a VERY off day, but everything was wrong with our visit. the only saving graces for myself was the pint of sierra nevada on tap.
is there another option for descent bbq in sf? i used to be a big fan of bro in laws on divisidero, but when you can find them open, the food seems to be 50/50 now. anyone care to share their bbq secret spots?
