Went to J & J's Burger and BBQ today. It's located on Adams a few blocks east of Fairfax. There are two serving windows -- one for barbecue, one for burgers and other non-BBQ food. It's like two dives in one.
For ambience, the place gets a negative-one. It's like an old hot dog stand with bad plastic furniture. Styrofoam plates. Cheap plastic flatware. It's kind of charming in a way.
The barbecue gets a 10 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best. Great ribs. Great beef brisket. Great beans and potato salad. That's all we had but I'll bet everything else there is great, too.
One oddment: About a half-hour after dining, everyone in our party was sleepy and in need of a nap. I don't know if it was something in the sauce or the wood smokiness in the food but there was definitely some kind of food-inspired lethargy, and it wasn't because we ate too much. What's with that?
