Last night I visited Bayou Bistro a little restaurant in Bayou Vista. If you are not familiar with BV it is the canal community at I45 & Hwy 6 on your way to Galveston. The restaurant is a rather simple but tastefully decorated place and most of the customers appeared to be locals. There were four of us in our group and we started with some of their crab stuffed jalapeños which were pretty average. Three of us ordered dinner salads with our meals and they were very fresh basic iceberg salads. The dressing were very good, in particular their Italian which the server said they make in the kitchen along with the other dressings. I ordered one of the specials which was listed as award winning crawfish etoufee. I am not sure what awards it has won but it was very good and had plenty crawfish with a nice dark roux base. I would definitely order again. Another member of our party, the only one that been to Bayou Bistro before ordered the shrimp philly which she raves about. Their version of a shrimp po-boy on a hoagie roll with onions, peppers, bacon and cheese. Another had a pizza that was very good as I also ate a piece of it. Another had their Parmesan catfish. A nice size fillet with a Parmesan crust and alfredo sauce on top. She very much enjoyed it but thought it would have been a little better without the alfredo sauce. It was served with some roasted potatoes and Bistro vegetables which was a grilled mix. It was also happy hour so I was able to enjoy two Heineken's for $2.50 each.
All in all it was a very pleasant dining experience in a place not traditionally thought of for dining. If anyone happens to be passing through Bayou Vista I would say you should consider giving it a try.
