Went to Tacoma on business and ate lunch at From the Bayou on 508 Garfield St South right next to Pacific Lutheran University. Go there!. I'm from Atlanta and recently spent time in New Orleans and nothing I ate there came anywhere close to this little place where the cook/owner is actually from the bayou country. Walking into this place is like an adventure in the Lousiana saints focus--angels and crosses mixed with skeletons and all done with grace. The small cornbread muffins-lots of them- that came first were filled with honey and jalapaneos. We had thick seafood(dark broth) and chicken/andouille gumbo(coffee cream broth)--sharing means you can try more stuff. The two gumbos were quite different--both spicy and full of wonderful tastes. Then on to crawfish etouffe and boom style catfish (flash fried). Everything was beautifully spiced, spicy and oven hot. Crabmeat stuffed baked potatoes with pepperjack and cheddar cheese, twice baked. All amazingly good for little money. They had 12 desserts including key lime cheesecake. We didn't try after the wonder of our very filling lunch. I can't recommend this place enough. We'll go out of our way next time we drive from Portland to Seattle!
