Basta Pasta

We just had a very nice casual dinner at Basta Pata on 17th Street and I'm very curious about this place. I guess it's Japanese Italian, although the menu is primarily Italian, there are a few Asian notes, like flying fish roe on pasta, or Japanese basil. The thing is the staff and the majority of the patrons seem to be either Japanese or of Japanese decent. Anybody know the background of the place? I looked back on the board and could'nt find anything. ( the squid ink linguine was really special, by the way, not just black. )
