Barrio Fiesta Filipino Food

marlon | Dec 11, 2004 10:12 AM

A small group of hounds went to Barrio Fiesta in Milpitas (Milmont Dr.) for a filipino feast. I am usually reticent to do filipino food since most of the time it does not measure up to homemade stuff. While I still feel that way, this place is a good option if you do not have someone who will cook a Kare-Kare for you at home!

We had:

Crispy Pata. Very nice skin but not much meat (we got the small one)

Kare-Kare. Way too bland, no peanut taste. People added shrimp paste for taste!

Cinataan Manok. A nice chicken with coconut milk.

Inihaw na Bangus. Milkfish with vegetables broiled. Way overcooked, but nice taste.

Pancit Canton. Not bad.Not great.

Tocinong Pusit. Calamari in a tamarind sweet sauce..the winner for the night.

Desserts: Ube with a stron banana flavor, Halo Halo nice mixture of jellies, etc and Leche flan with what we think is some citrus (calamansi?).

$20 per person for a very filling meal. Nice place, good service and Great company!

Also there are some other interesting places around the area that have been reviewed by other hounds in the past. There is a nice Sichuan place in Lion's mall and also Cafe Ophelia in Milpitas mall....enjoy!
