Barndiva and more...long

On Saturday we took our friend from Los Angeles wine tasting and to Healdsburg for lunch. For dinner we went to Range.

Wineries:
Lynmar: Beautiful tasting facility. It was such a beautiful day sat out sat and enjoyed the tasting. I really enjoyed the 2003 Russian River Pinot and the 2003 Quail Hill Chardonnay.

Ironhorse: Always enjoyed tasting at Ironhorse. Great views. There Wedding Cuvee was my favorite...I tend to prefer sparkling wines that are predominantly Pinot. Very nice sparkling wine.

J: Offers a food pairing with your tasting which is fun and my out of town guest particularly enjoyed this feature. I really like the J Pinot Gris ( I enjoy their sparklings too but at that moment/mood the pinot gris was just tasty to me).

For Lunch we headed to Barndiva. When I told my friend the name of the restaurant we were going to, said she envisioned Cher walking out of Barn singing "If I could turn back time." Hard visual to get out of your mind. It was a good laugh. That said it was a great experience. The food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. I would certainly go back.

Me: Chicken pot pie with mesculin greens. Great puff pastry, rosie's organic chicken (light and dark meat) with veggies. Really nice and I liked that it didn't tast heavy and was not overly creamy. For dessert I had the cheesecake with blood oranges and graham cracker crust. Very good there was a spice in the crust that I couldn't identify and forgot to ask about but was lovely I paired that with a late harvest viognier from Bonterra which worked great.

Friend: Duck salad. This was actually my favorite. Crisp duck with Chili/sweet sauce that had great balance. I don't remember all the elements all I know is that I would go back for that in a heart beat. She followed that with meyer lemon pudding cake and a reisling (name escapes me). I loved this cake between the spongy dense meyer lemon layer and shortbread layer I was sold. Very good.

Fiance: Rosie organic chicken breast over chard with baby carrots. This wasn't my favorite but the greens are so fresh here and quality of chicken stood out. I loved the chard in the dish cooked perfectly. He had the chocolate carmel mousse. Great texture and extremely high quality chocolate.

Dinner we went to Range. They have been talked about quite a bit on this board. Some highlights were the wild mushroom ravioli in pecan brown butter sauce. Everyone kept going back to my sister's plate to dip their bread in the remaining sauce. That was delicious, I had a bite of the seared venision. I happen to love venision and liked this version. Crusted with peppercorns and served with pear and endive. Everything went very well together. My friend had the puree of cauliflower soup with hint of truffle. I only had a bite of this as well but really liked what I tried. I had the halibut with french lentils, artichokes and pancetta. I really liked the halibut. I love lentils and they were great in this dish I drank a marsanne/rousanne blend with this. I had already tried their pork shoulder with hominy and greens and that was a favorite at the table. For dessert we shared chocolate souffle cake with creme anglais (not the biggest souffle fan and thought this was just OK), another meyer lemon tart with coconut cream. The coconut didn't stand out but the lemon element was delicious. My favorite was the coffee custard which tasted in texture more like a pot de creme then custard like creme brulee or flan. I really liked this dessert.
