Barking at Burch or Did I Pick the Wrong Tree? (Drink Prices)

SarahInMinneapolis | Jan 27, 201509:59 AM

Went to Burch last week for a pizza and a couple of drinks.

Ordered a Bombay dry martini.

[Server asked if I wanted regular or Sapphire and I said regular because I prefer it.]

Bill came. $13.50 a martini. I thought that was odd, given their “signature craft cocktails” are $12 a piece and include call liquor.

Questions. Isn’t the usual practice that the “signature” cocktails usually cost more than a regular call drink? I’ve always assumed that cost of a call martini will be no more than the house call cocktails. Am I wrong?

Asked the bartender about the price and she said the house probably gets deals on the call liquors in their signature cocktails. She offered to get a manager and at that point, I declined, not wanting to make a scene.

On the way out, the manager was at the host stand, so I asked her about it. She thought the price was wrong and offered to debit my credit card. She said she could do that without my hanging around so I left.

Suprise! No debit to my credit card. The whole thing strikes me as odd.

What do others think?

By they way, I left about 8 pm on a Thursday night and the place was less than half full. I’ve always thought that Burch was overhyped and overpriced. But every few months I give it a go because it’s on the way home.
