Best Barbacoa I Had in Years in Rialto

El Ojo de Aqua, a small family run Mexican food stand, filled with families and children running around, makes great barbacoa and a menu filled with antojitos that are not common to a regular taqueria.

My barbacoa came with 2 freshly made corn tortillas, topped with cilantro and onions, and a bowl of consomme with garbanzos beans. The consomme was good, even if it came in a paper bowl, and although it was not a clear consomme, it tasted great. You can also ask for a small condiment bowl of roasted jalapenos to go with your soup--it already comes with all the trimmings of cilantro, japanese dried chiles, and an oregano mix. I dipped my very large barbacoa taco into my soup--it was that good. The barbacoa was perfectly salted and moist--and I got plenty of it. My companions ordered the huitlacoche quesadilla--it was good--but the squash flower quesadilla was better. The huaraches were very good but messy--a thick oval corn "tortilla" fried and smeared with beans, fresh lettuce, cheese, and avocados. Delish. The place ain't pretty, but it is cheap. I would eat the specialities, not the burritos. Handmade corn tortillas--totally worth it. I will be back!
