I hadn't been to Baraka for a long while, but traipsed through the rain on Friday night. My dining companion and I ordered a large pot of hot mint tea to warm us up. Algerian dates with a soft yogurty cheese were rich and had interesting texture. The chickpea custard was tasty and tender with a little spice. Pea soup was comforting, more like a lentil soup. We shared a smoked salmon entree - on flatbread with pears and a dollop of the same yogurty cheese - it was a little strange, like having bagels & lox, but we ate every bit. The creme caramel was sweet and smooth with a crunchy less sweet sesame cookie on the side for good contrast. It's a funny little place, but cozy on a blustery day.
