Had a great meal at this place a few nights ago. Not cheap--$100 for two--but that got us both starters, mains, and coffee, plus my glass of wine. Once I got over my contempt for the no-sign-on-the-street hipness (expressed also at Tartine Bakery), I found a sparkling, lively room, relaxing and not too loud if a little self-consciously up-scale. I started with a crostini of pickled sardines over avocado that was surprisingly generous in portion and done perfectly--clean, bright, fresh flavors. Then I had an ahi main with white beans. I'm a little tired of the seared ahi deal--I would've ordered the North African lamb stew if I hadn't eaten lamb both for dinner the night before and lunch that very day--but I found this one to utterly worthwhile, done perfectly, not pretentious, etc ... my friend had the same main, but a different starter--little gem salad--and he was also impressed.
