Ate at the Bar Room at the Modern on Monday evening. Beautiful place & beautifully prepared food. We sat down around 5:30, so didn't have any problem getting a table. The room is very sleek & chic, and the dishes and table settings are amazing, look like they're borrowed from the museum (including the bobbling glass quartino wine bottle). Also unusual & colorful flower arrangements.
The menu is arranged into hot & cold starters, as well as half-portion main courses. We started with the arctic char tartare. The fish tasted very fresh, had an almost creamy consistency with accents of chive. It was topped by trout caviar -- pretty decadent. Then we had the grilled shrimp with cabbage salad, and charred octupus with warm potato salad. All of the food came looking ready for a magazine shoot. And all of it was tasty, though the char was the standout.
Talk about decadence -- for dessert we had beignets with a maple/caramel dipping sauce, a mango/citrus dipping sauce, and vanilla ice cream.
With a quartino plus a glass of wine, and two glasses of dessert wine, it came to about $125. I'll be back!
