Bar Minnow...(long)

was absolutely exhausted after a weekend of moving my girlfriend's stuff into her new apartment. we spent the day at the beach and figured we'd end the evening with some lobster rolls and fried seafood at bar minnow on sunday night...despite the negative reviews on chowhound.

the place seemed promising...the place is decent looking and we got a table right away at 7:30pm. the place was about 70% full at the time.

waitress took our order right away. considering how awful the service was supposed to be, i figured we might as well order if they were ready for us. ordered the maytag fried bleu cheese app and 2 victory pilsners. for entrees, she had the lobster roll, i had the fried oysters and clams. for $20, her lobster roll ought to have been at least good, for $10, the fried oysters and clams seemed rather cheap. the menu was pretty puny if you ask me. they were out of some oysters, no whole lobster, and just a few menu items.

the fried bleu cheese app was good...its fried (good) and bleu cheese (good)...sort of a no brainer when you combine the two. nothing mind blowing but enjoyable.

and then we waited...and waited...and waited. i asked the waitress whats the deal 2x and she said it would be right out. my girlfriend spotted our food with the runner after maybe 20 minutes when we were finished with the app. but the runner walked right past us and gave it to the couple at the end of the restaurant. turns out it was our food and 5 minutes later, the waitress brought it over and explained that the runner was new. she was gonna serve us what they placed in front of the other couple when my girlfriend noticed my plate was already being eaten...pretty gross.

they apologized a lot, got our food in about 5 more minutes and we ate. her lobster roll was mediocre but the store-bought potato roll was quite lame. my fried oysters and clams werent half bad. nothing amazing but for $10, a good deal.

they comped our drinks and apologized. all in all, i doubt we'll be back...especially with brooklyn fish camp opening soon. you could tell they read this message board...when they messed up, you could almost see them all going "D'Oh"
