Bar etiquette--what to do when you get a bad drink?

So I was at a bar the other day (in the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle) and ordered a Patron Silver & Cointreau margarita. The bartender mixed the tequila & Cointreau...then added Rose's lime juice and what was either sour mix or margarita mix.

The bloody thing was undrinkable. As in, the salt on the rim was the best part.

What's the standard etiquette in a situation like this? I ended up not doing anything about it, as I'd only specified what liquor to use, so the bartender was within his rights to add the other ingredients. But would it be acceptable to ask him to comp the drink? Or to ask for a fresh drink made exactly to my specifications?
