BAR DEMI

i had not been to BAR DEMI in quite awhile but tonight i met my wife there after work. we ordered a half bottle of french bandol rose and a half dozen oysters to start. the oysters were great, but one of my poor oysters was a soldier for minionette(sp) that was not good (some sort of soy/balsamic combo).

we then shared smoked salmon & duck rillettes. the salmon had an odd wasabi spiced creme fraiche that was unexpected and off putting, but you could nibble around it easily. the rillettes had a good earthy texture and taste.

we finished with a three cheese offering ($12) which included french and italian soft goat cheese. the third was an upstate ny hard and suprisingly very spicy cheddar-like cheese. sorry i don't recall the names. they have a dozen nice offerings to choose from. all of ours were very good. we shared a nice glass of manzanilla sherry, 'la gitana' i think, with our little cheese course.

it's a nice romantic spot. great wine and drinks list as you would expect. total cost was $70 w/o the tip. service was excellent. however even given that we were eating rich food the place was hot as a sauna---they need to do something about that.

i'd rec BAR DEMI for anyone on a first date even though i'm a big fan of 'INO for this type of establishment.
