BAR BQ review

one hint its not going to be great is when a bbq spot tries to be too all-encompassing and offers 'cue from more than one region.

BAR BQ is south on 6th ave at 20th street. i had the brisket platter w/ beans and potato salad sides.

the potato salad was excellent. it was red new potatos, dill or chive and white beans. dee-lish -- i inhaled it. the beans were baked beans, too sweet, but to be fair i dont care much for that style. the bbq was totally bland, dry and not smoky. i suspect this is pre-boiled stuff, whatev it was not good at all. i had to resort to the various condiment sauces they brought out --- fwiw, the house carolina spicy vinegar style fared better on it than the hot sauces or the house bbq sauce. i tried a bite of the pulled pork and chicken, both seemed a bit better, but not much.

oh well, its a nice place and the cook and staff seem proud, always a good sign, but i cant rec it. in brooklyn i liked BISCUIT better, but both of these are only given my one visit each.

despite the current insanely crazy 'cue restaurant trend, bbq continues to seem hopeless in this city.
