tried bar blanc last night for the first time. was expecting horrible service and great food. i got okay service and very good food instead.
nice room...a bit narrow towards the back but clean yet warm. our waiter was very friendly but a bit unpolished all things considered. his charm was a bit much but he was helpful overall.
i had the sweetbread and rabbit 'salad' which was far from a salad. it was 2 rather nice sizes of excellent fried sweatbreads with a rabbit terrine and a smattering of sheeps milk ricotta. all in all, it was big on texture and light on taste. the sweetbreads were so rich it tasted like foie gras. the rabbit was good but not as flavorful. my partner had the scallops which i didnt try but looked better than usual.
i was split on the pig or the lasagna for entree but the waiter steered me to the lasagna. when it arrived, it looked pretty unconventional and small but it as quite filling and absolutely delicious. the lamb shoulder was very shredded but the whole entree worked quite well. my partner's ravioli sounded boring but was excellent.
i had a delicious bordeaux/malbec blend that was one of the finer glasses ive had in awhile. with 2 appetizers, 2 pasta dishes, 4 glasses of wine, the bill was around $140 before tip.
overall, i liked the place a lot. i dont think ill be running back anytime soon but would definitely return.
