back-to-back banh mi showdown (sunset park)

1. combination banh mi at an dong - excellent! the cinnamon-laced pate is awesome, and an dong has the best bread. however - not spicy enough - we had to ask for hot sauce.

2. meatball banh mi at ba xuyen (7th ave. location). also really good. bread not quite as crispy but more hot peppers.

both were light on the mayonnaise.

we were hoping to decide on a favorite, but both were so good we couldn't choose. also we were blown away by how friendly the staff were at both places (especially ba xuyen).

also at ba xuyen we had a durian milkshake. our first experience with durian. when they opened it up, an odor of raw sewage came wafting over the store. the flavor was fascinating - we drank down the whole milkshake trying to identify it - finally decided it was yummy tropical fruit flavor with just a hint of crispy fish skin. such a unique flavor - seems like you could get addicted to it. recommended (but not for the squeamish).

however, an dong provided a "first time" experience too - first time in a combination sandwich & cell phone store!

we'll definitely be back - what are your favorites at these spots?
