A bangup Thanksgiving dinner at Corduroy

My husband, stepson and I had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at Corduroy restaurant in the Sheraton Four Points Hotel at 12th and K Sts. NW. For three courses costing only $35 one could choose from six appetizer selections, four entrees and four desserts. My husband started with the Mozzarella Porcupine appetizer, perfectly gooey mozzarella cheese crusted with phyllo dough "quills". Delicious. My stepson and I had the Sea Scallops with Spinach Sauce appetizer, three perfectly moist, seared big scallops drizzled with a subtle spinach "coulis" if you will, that made us grab for more of their tasty, crusty bread with which to sop up the rest of the sauce. For entrees, we all had the Turkey with all of the Trimmings. The turkey itself, both dark and white meat with skin removed and topped with a drizzle of gravy was a revelation in terms of flavor and moistness. Accompanying the turkey was a delicious boat of cranberry sauce spiked with horseradish and orange zest. With those items were served nicely cooked haricots verts, mashed potatoes - really a potato puree, and a mash of carrots, turnips and other root vegetables. For dessert two of us had the pumpkin pie which, while not as fabulous as the rest of the meal was fine. My husband ended his meal with the pistachio bread pudding with pistachio ice cream. That dessert was more stellar in my mind. Nice and moist with a subtle flavor of pistachios. Good wines by the glass with that meal were the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, not too dry and not to sweet with a nice body that didn't overwhelm the flavor of the meal, and the Viognier, a much drier white, more like a Sancerre.

Corduroy serves special meals at Christmas, Valentines Day, and New Years Eve, but, as the food is delicious, the service very professional and pleasant, and the prices reasonable, it is advised to reserve well in advance.

Corduroy's phone number is (202)589-0699. The restaurant has valet parking and its main entrance is on K Street. Take the elevator to the second floor.
