Bangkok Paradise - Old Saybrook Ct - Thai

Well we have been to this new restaraunt a couple of times now and the last time was probably the best - they improve every time I am there.

so I thought I would let you all know how much I am coming to enjoy this place.

First - - since I have lived in the area - - this particular location is a restaraunt killer - - seems no matter what goes in there- it doesn't stay in business more than a couple of years.

So now - they have reopened in the past year as a Thai place.

we ordered steamed dumplings, beef satay to start
Then we had a Thai steak special, Lemongrass Squid and Pad Thai.

The steamed dumplings were light, fresh and tasty - - and the serving sauce was just the right touch of sweet and sour without being thick and cloying

The beef satay - what can I say - these morsels wer so tender - - I , who am no beef eater in general - would order these again without hesitation - melt in your mouth tender, tasty and the peanut servig sauce was again just right.

Thai steak - well not knwing what to expect as it was a special - our waitress told us it was "backbone" steak - we had no clue
so we ordered anyway - - unusual as each small strip had a bone in it - looked like it could have been back bone vertebrae - the meat was braised in some sort of teriyaki brown sauce - and it was served with an assortment of vegetables - overall : very good

The Lemon grass squid exceeded my expectations - it is always hit or miss when you order squid - but this kitchen knows how to stir fry squid - , it was tender and tasty without any "seafood" aftertase - so probably very fresh or at least not frozen very long - the lemongrass sauce was also tasty and blended well witht eh perfectly cooked squid and stir fry veggies. overall: superb

The Pad Thai we have had several times and it is always consistetnly well prepared.

we had a choice of Jasmine Rice, Sticky rice or brown rice and chose sticky and brown - all perfectly cooked as well.

great evening for a set of well priced meals.

The wait staff is always cheery and helpful with their menu items.

I say give them a try if you are in Old Saybrook

they are actually located on the Middlesex Turnpike heading up into Essex - almost on the Essex border on Rt 154.......hard to find since it is off the beaten path..but they are a stones throw north from the Rte 9 exit for Rte 154

we have ordered takeout from them too - - and it too is always well prepared and packed

If you are in the area for lunch Mon - Sat - - they have awesome value on lunch specials from 11-4 for only $6.95
