Banana Garden

With all the current gossip about Banana Garden, i thought i would actually go out there and try this place out for myself.

For starter, i ordered the roti canai with curry sauce. This was an excellent appetizer aside from the service we got from the waiter. He spilled the curry all over the table and just put a napkin over the table and left with out an apology. I didn't care much as the roti canai looked very good. When he came back with the curry sauce me and my companion started to dig in. I thought the roti canai was very fluffy and chewy, and the curry sauce was a perfect match. Then came the rendang chicken and the pineapple shrimp fried rice. Both dishes were a disappointment. The chicken seemed to be over cooked and it was sat in the curry sauce for way too long. The pineapple shrimp fried rice was very simply done. There was nothing spectacular that stands out from the plate. I thought i had a lot better ones from thai restaurants in sf. The rice appeared to be flavored with ketchup but it lacks so much texture. The pineapple were small and was not sweet at all. With all that aside, the house special crab came to the table. This was actually a pretty nicely done dish. The crab was really fresh, the sauce was simmered into the crab meat by slow roast.

Overall, i would say this place seems to be decent. Maybe i ordered the wrong dishes but i just had a split vote on 2 good dishes and 2 bad dishes. If i am ever in the neighborhood again i would drop by but i would say it might not be worth visiting from sf.
