Ban Thai in Clearwater--that is a restaurant name not a suggestion!

Happy to have stumbled upon and stumbled into this charming little Thai restaurant in a strip center at 2519 McMullen booth road.

Tried the Pad Thai with chicken, figuring if they could handle the classic, then would be worth checking out the more exotic items on the menu. The presentation was exquisite, including flowers on the plate, but I'd rate the dish only so-so. It was kind of gloppy, too much sauce, and REALLY sweet! The balance between salt, lime and sugar just wasn't there. That said, I am having that trouble with a lot of food I am encountering in the south, the pancakes and corn bread seem too sweet to me too, so maybe it is a case of me adjusting. Anyway, Mr. Coyote had the Panang Chicken and it was terrific. Medium is what I'd call mild in terms of spicy, but I would order it again and just ask for hot. Good service in a busy spot. Lunch specials are six to seven dollars and come with an eggroll, soup and rice. Excellent value.

Nicest part of the experience was enjoying the lovely flowers. Real roses on every table, bouquets of roses at the door and in the bathrooms. Lovely.

Would love to hear about other good Thai spots, especially in the Clearwater/St. Pete's area.
