Well, I had heard about this week's special at the Boneyard Bistro of venison, yet had not tried it.
However, with some advance notice I had planned a birthday get together for a friend, her mother and aunt, and so Boneyard was the restaurant of choice.
Two of us had been before, while aunt and honoree had not.
Well, after the duck spring rolls and a special mussels appetizer, it was time for the main entrees to show up.
Well, Bambi was killer, period! Served rare, with everything from tiny melon ball sized parsnips and carrots and fois gras and rapini among some of the adornments, it was one of the best dishes I have ever had in any restaurant. Mother's order.
Other items enjoyed included my rerun on the cajun stew, which is SO good, as well as the two newbies having to try the spare and baby back ribs, along with 3 of the sides(fried MacNCheese, beans and collard greens - superb).
Everyone loved everything, including the bottle of Selby Bobcat Zin which went superbly with the food, and the other 3 split the split of bananas, which was pronounced one of the best desserts ever. And honoree works at one of the major dinner houses in downtown LA and she said she only wished they could put out food like this.
Place was packed as usual. Wine list now includes at least 6 Zins, Ch. Lynch Bages, and many other quality wines that marry well with this food. Truly an amazing series of flavors. I have been 8 or so times in the approximately 6-7 weeks they have been open.
Best of all, only 3 blocks from home.
