Need balkan recommendations

dickson d | Feb 6, 2004 12:17 PM

I am putting together a dinner linked to the opening of a film on the experience of recent balkan immigrants in Chicago. It will be available for fellow Chowhounds, assuming I get it together. At this point I am scouting for a place that serves food, preferably of the former Yugoslavia (not picky about which part) and can handle a group.

Searching, I have found some possibilities, and wonder if anyone can provide more info (quality of food and whether a group would work there) on any of these places:

Cafe Aloha - 2156 W Montrose
Balkan Restaurant - 2321 W Lawrence
Lidija's (is this one closed?) - 4343 N Lincoln
Cafe Unbrella - 4753 N Lincoln
Operetta (which comes up as both Bohemian and Serbian???) - 5653 W Fullerton
Skadarlija - 4024 N Kedzie

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,
