2014 was a banner year for this thread, with all kinds of wonderful recipes shared, photos posted, and good conversations. Let's make 2015 as fun!
I have been baking this morning (rstuart's cranberry poundcake, with its scary amounts of butter and sugar, in the swirl Bundt and a kugelhupf pan, and I couldn't help myself, I added 1 tsp baking powder...). It struck me that one of the great pleasures of baking is the sense of continuity with one's background and experience of life. I was going to use a small Bundt pan my mom gave me when I was a teenager. I used a Tupperware measuring cup from a set that M's indomitable great-aunt gave me in my 20's (indomitable = travelling alone at the age of 78 from a tiny town in Iowa to Taipei to visit us). I used a fuchsia (in honor of my kitty) silicone spatula that my sister-in-law gave me. The mixer I got in 1987, when we lived way up north in Potsdam, NY. The stove is the first-ever one we bought as opposed to having it come with the digs. ET CETERA...I have my mom's pie pans, scored with a million knife cuts from pieces of pie. To me, baking is about family.
How about you? What are you baking these days?
