I'm looking for restaurants, diners, and other local eateries in Maine that still serve baked beans that are made from scratch rather than from a can.
A quick Google search reveals that Dysart's in Hermon and Bangor is one place that makes their baked beans from scratch using molasses:
Are homemade baked beans a rare offering in the state nowadays, or is it still pretty commonplace?
And are there any places that bake their beans with maple syrup rather than molasses?
Also, just wondering how a non-local would find out about the traditional baked bean suppers that are held in small towns throughout the state. Are these events generally open to everyone? Where are they typically advertised?
Thanks in advance.
