I go to Buy Phong bakery to get a good baguette. That's in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. Not the peninsula, but there's a bridge. Buy Phong might supply some outlets on the peninsula, but it's best when bought at the bakery.
This bakery is a Jewel! Dropped in 15 minutes before closing and was actually offered warm bread from the cooling racks! This bakery is so close to my home that I was able to take the bread home and compose my sandwiches almost before the bread had completely cooled. They make the most perfect sandwich rolls that I have tasted in the bay area. If you enjoy bread that is has an eggshell thin crust that encases a soft interior of buttery goodness then I suggest that you go directly to this bakery and check it out.

I wonder if the terrific French roll in the banh mi I had from Fremont's Sweet CoCo was from Buiphong.

I used to see Buiphong baguettes at Chinese grocery stores on Clement and Irving streets in SF. Haven't paid attention to know if it's still distributed in the City.
I was shopping in New May Wah on Clement St in San Francisco this morning and made a point to look for Buiphong baguettes there. They are sold there, $1.75 apiece.
Buiphong also has a bakery in San Jose.

FWIW Bui Phong baguettes (both the long ones and the banh mi rolls) are on sale at Walgreens on Stockton St. in SF Chinatown.
By the way, the original post was merely a reply in another thread quite awhile ago. A moderator seems to have split it off into a new thread without marking it as such.
