After talking to friends about making bagels, I agreed to host a party to make/eat bagels and do a cookie exchange. We're starting at 9:30 for bagels and will eat at 11:30. What I'm trying to work out are:
1) I'll make the bagel dough the night before. I'm thinking of shaping the bagels, too, so all that's left is boiling/baking them the next day for the batch we'll eat. I'll also make another batch of sponge to rest overnight in the refrigerator. In the morning, we'll finish it off w/ kneading and shaping the bagels for people to take home. Does that seem to work out? Any thoughts logistically?
2) Other than bagels (someone is bringing cream cheese and lox), what else could I serve that would take no time that day, since I'll be busy w/ bagels? I was leaning towards soup and salad but what kind of soup? I've done butternut squash with this group already. Italian wedding? I don't care to stick w/ a theme of bagels and everything matching. But, I could make a chicken stock and do chicken soup. Any ideas? No nuts, and easy is good. Dessert will be cookies.
