I'm a big fan of Ethiopian food, and after much anticipation two friends and I finally made it to Meskerem on 47th on Saturday night. The t'ej (honey wine) was good, and we ordered the combination plate with tibs, lamb, another kind of beef, and two types of lentils. we also ordered an extra chicken dish and a garbanzo bean dish. the injera was cold, as were the dishes on the combination plate, but the chicken and garbanzos were warm and tasty. in fact, the flavor of the rest of the dishes was just fine, but it was all pretty cold. so i was a little disappointed, but not crushed, especially given the quantity and price. and the service was friendly.
the next morning my friend and i were both reading the paper, sunday-serene, when i got a very sharp pang in my stomach. twenty minutes later, he got the same pang. and you can guess what followed. and followed. and followed.
now, i know what you're going to say. but neither of us had eaten anything else that day. and both of us had meticulously washed and rinsed our hands immediately before eating. has anyone else had this experience there, i did we just get unlucky?
after we recover, we're thinking of trying the places on the UWS that my eritrean friend from berkeley recommended. i've read the earlier threads on them, but has anyone been more recently?
