Bad Lunch Report - Miami Biscayne Area

Gagging Madly | Oct 4, 2005 07:15 PM

Well, it's been a banner week of bad lunches, and it's only TUESDAY. The rest of the week I'm brown bagging it.

Our first trip beyond the luncheon looking glass was to Sushi Siam at 55th St and Biscayne in Miami. There were five of us, and we arrived prior to the lunch rush (read "empty restaurant.") The waitress was abominable by even Miami standards - surly, distracted, and absent minded...managed to bring 50% of what we asked for - if two people wanted a drink, one arrived. Four of us ordered salad prior to the entree, but only two salads arrived. Ordering and re-ordering, still not getting what we wanted frustrated everyone. The food? Fair to middling pseudo sushi without plum vinegar - you'd do better at Publix. Thai portions much smaller than previous visits. The green tea was essentially water. While waiting to pay, I observed wait staff refusing to give napkins and cutlery with a takeout order that cost over $100. I'd advise extreme caution.

Just as hapless are the waitstaff at Delicianas Del Mar Peruano, Biscayne around 29th St. Four of us presented for lunch, however after a tip from a fellow diner, we switched to takeout orders. It took a half hour to get three specials and a melange of beef with gravy with french fries actually mixed in. It should be noted that the special, a stew, came with soup. Yeah. Apparently, though, the shrimp ceviche is good.
