bad dinner at Nyonya

Went to dinner at Nyonya in Sunset Park last night. First let's start with the ridiculous service. No fewer than 6 waiters/waitresses came to take our order within 7 minutes of being seated. Each time we said "we're not quite ready" and the person walked away without saying a word. One minute later, another one, then again, and was absurd. The staff is literally *running* up and down the restaurant screaming to each other across the whole room. We had to ask for water at least 3 times. The tea was cold. We got no napkins, blah blah blah. Awful. Bordering on hostile.

Now the food: the spring rolls were decent, not a lot of taste, and too cold for my liking. Pancakes with chicken/peanut sauce were okay but not great, and not hot. We ordered softshell crabs and they *looked* like soft shell crabs - same size, shape, etc. - but the shells were so hard they were close to impossible to eat. And since they were small, the labor involved in getting any meat out made it truly not worth the effort. We had a chicken in wine "casserole" that was so bitter it was inedible.

Even the Malaysian ice tea was bitter, and not cold enough. The one thing I really enjoyed was the shaved ice dessert with corn and red beans and syrup. But by that time all we wanted to do was get the hell out of there and get a little peace and quiet on the street - ha.

I am never going back there.
