Went to Belle Vie in Park Slope on Sunday for breakfast, maybe 3 tables were taken when we walked in at 10:30ish. We were greeted by a host w/B.O., made to wait a minute before being seated. Had to wait almost 10 minutes before we got menus, they kept passing us by without eye contact. They took our drink and food orders. More than enough time went by (isn't coffee and tea usually pretty immediate?) before they brought us our coffee and tea. As I let my tea steep, the waiter walked by and proceeded to take my empty coffee cup away, since I wasn't having coffee. Didn't let him. About 5 waiters were scurrying around filling coffee and when we questioned ours about our order, got an attitude w/a smile. Waited about 25 minutes for food (although my croissant came after about 15 minutes, rudely not brought at the same time as my husband's order). They must have forgotten about his in the oven because his eggs were overdone. Two bites taken.
A smarter fellow who sat down shortly after we arrived left after a moment and a girl who sat next to us was complaining that her onion soup had more cheese than soup (though it didn't stop her from eating it all).
What is the deal with this place? We are pleasant and don't elicit this type of treatment when we go out... No thank you -- I'll stay in my 'hood and go to Bar Tabac where they are friendly and I get food in a timely fashion, no matter how busy (or not) they are. (Side note: there were two or three spelling errors on the mirror where they list the liquors -- how hard is it to copy from a label? Not charming.)
