Walked in and got a great seat at the bar.
Ordered the lamb tongue vinaigrette to start... it was just so darn good! This is probably one of those things the "adventurous types" should try. I can definitly say that anyone who isn't so adventurous would like too... if you don't tell them what it is. The meat was so tender and well cooked, and the vinaigrette added a perfect amount of sweetness to it. There were some shredded herbs mixed in there too. This was by far the best thing I've had in New York City!
Had the special of the evening which was wild duck ragu taglitalle... which was rather disappointing. This is particularly my fault because I was expecting the duck ragu I found at Il Ritrovo in Florence. I always order this dish in hopes of duplicating my Il Ritrovo experience but, it always disappoints me. I should know better by now...
For dessert, I had the sorbet assortment because I really couldn't make it three blocks down the street to Otto in that stupid blizzard. The sorbets at Babbo were pretty decent but nothing to write home about.
I think overall I was very happy with the service and appetizers. After that, it was just... eh.
Perhaps I ordered the wrong things?
Either way, this is where I need your help:
I had a great experience there as it was just so much fun sitting at there bar. The people I met there were fantastic... should I go back again and give the food another shot? Or should I go somewhere else for "That restaurant you just can't duplicate... ANYWHERE" (i.e. Il Ritrovo in Florence!).
I'm visiting from Los Angeles, and have only Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Where else should I go?
I'm already planning on hitting up Devi, and several "Vendy Award Winners." I'll start another topic on that one...
