Baba Ghannouj Bistro (Triangle)

Perhaps I should try more of the menu before reporting about this place but I am so happy with this find that I thought I'd tell my fellow Triangle hounds about it anyway. I have been lamenting that we did not have a good Middle Eastern eatery in Durham. Sorry, International Delights is not very good IMO. The closest was Med Deli in Chapel Hill. Well, no longer.

The BJB I went to is located in the Wachovia Bldg. on the other side of where Verde is. I googled them and apperently they have three other locations throughout the Triangle:

The bistro is pleasant and had cool world music playing. The menu had a variety of kabobs, salads, wraps and gyros, chicken curry, hummus, etc. They claim to grill their meats over charcoal. I got the lamb shawarma (sic) with a side of, what else, baja ghannouj. The shawarma was awesome, with nicely marinated pieces of lamb, tangy tahini sauce, and tomatoes, onion, and herbs wrapped in pita bread. The baba was creamy, lemony, with a hint of garlic. Very nice. I watched intently as other people's dishes were brought out and everything looked really fresh and vibrant, and "mmmm" and "oooo" was often heard upon someone taking their first bite. Everything is priced $9.99 or less, very fair. I got my food quickly but getting the bill to a long time and my drink was never refilled. It looks like a family run place so I'd give it a little time for them to find their rhythm service-wise.

This place deserves your giving it a shot. I plan to return on Friday.
