thanks to the suggestion of hounds who replied, we had a nice dinner @B44. It was a very seafood affair - for appetizers we shared some Boquerones and grilled lamb. the boquerones were unusual and very good - we had ordered stuffed crab as well but they brought us baby ocopus instead - we did not realize this until we ate it, but the octopus was not bad. for the entrees our party chose the barceloneta paella, the romescada, the roasted salt cod, the churrasco steak, and a monkfish special.
my friends raved about the romescada and the monkfish, both dishes had full flavor and fish with great texture. the paella was a bit disappointing - it was good however had too little seafood(3 shrimps, 3mussels, 3clams and 3 squids in total :) my roasted salt cod was downright salty, to the point it was not too edible :( i brought this up to the waiter and he replied he'd bring it up with the chef, but did not offer to do anything else.
for the desserts we had lionesas(cream puffs with ice cream), a cinnamon creme brulee, chocolate b44s(chocolate cake w/apricot sorbet), and banana dulce de leche ice cream. all were hits, especially the chocolate b44, with the cake nicely balanced by the light and flavorful apricot sorbet(sorry sailorbuoys but, no cinnamon ice cream last night...)
overall i'd say it was a mixed meal - there were definite hits and misses, the service was okay if a bit confused with the appetizer mixup etc. we thought some of the entrees did not justify the price tags attached to them, particularly the paella, if we go back we may try ordering all the appetizers that attracted our attn instead(and there were quite a few!)
thanks again :)
