By 10 PM on a Monday evening, the area close to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is pretty dead. We were at the first ASU music performance of the season and had skipped dinner to be on time for the pre-concert talk. My stomach was talking to me. Suddenly, I remembered AZ88 is in the neighborhood. Nothing sounded better than a big fat cold martini and juicy burger.
The martini was perfect for me. A tall, slender stem and chilled glass goes a long way to add to my enjoyment, and this one was filled to the brim with icy goodness.
Was it just the hunger pangs that made everything taste so good? Honestly, I don't know. But this was one fine hamburger. I chose the au Poivre, my husband had a mushroom-Swiss, both arrived medium-rare as ordered. This, in itself, is cause for joy because too often, medium-rare is closer to medium-well. The peppery spread on the meat was piquant and added to the beefy flavor. My husband was very pleased with the large amount of melted cheese - too often his meal arrives with a hunk o'cold cheese sitting atop the meat.
AZ88 had fallen off my radar but is now firmly back in the rotation, especially for the rest of the concert season. It was a perfect combination.
