AXE: minimalist in Venice

Down to Abbot Kinney in Venice. People talk about the minimalist decor at the nearby Joe's, but this place has it beat. Very simple. Very serene. Cold beverages all seem to be served in pony glasses. Nary a wine glass in sight. You get a healthy pour on the wine by the glass--in this instance, a solid red from Languedoc. The food is not necessarily minimalist at all. Great grilled lamb chop appetizer (shouldn't we do a thread on great appetizers?) with tabouleh and yogurt. The only downside is you get two of these tasty little chops for $14. If only there were 3.... Pasta bolognese was served in a hearty portion but relatively bland, especially compared to the chops. A seafood stew was a better special and recommended. Lots of saffron flavor. There was a nice flatbread and spreads starter and a servicable soba (perhaps more in tune with the decor). Four eaters, plenty to eat, $150 including 3 alcoholic drinks, bottled water, tax and tip. But I sure wish there had been one more lamb chop.
