I just had a crab melt from Dave's Chillin' and Grillin', a little hole in the wall sandwich shop on the southeast corner on Colorado Blvd. at Eagle Rock - just two doors down from Swork.
Anyhow, it was spectacular. Tons of pure snow crab with just enough mayonnaise piled on with provolone and tomatoes on grilled sourdough. $7.00 might seem steep, but for the size and quality, it's a bargain. No Surumi here!
Dave, a Boston transplant, also makes a great meatball sub made from veal and pork and beef that he grinds himself. My friend John swears by the French dip and Dave's special turkey sandwich (the Pilgrim). Just ask Dave about his ingredients and he'll go on a ten minute sermon on how there's no added water in his meats and how his tuna is the best in town, etc. I've never met anyone more passionate about sandwiches.
Anyhow, I'm giving him such a gushing plug because his place was empty when I went in today and it'd be a shame if it didn't succeed. Then where would I get my crab melts?
Oh, and he does a mean smoothie, too.
