Stopped by Water Grill last night after seeing The Producers again - do not miss this show - only about 9 weeks left - best I've seen in years - may even try to get back a 3rd time. Anyway... decided to eat at the bar at Water Grill as our resvs weren't for another 1 1/2hrs (they book up the early times fast due to Staples & new Disney Concert Hall, along with other events downtown).
Had 4 types of oysters - by far the best were the Coramandels from New Zealand - briny, delicious, perfect size - a little on the large side, but not gross monsters. Just a touch of shallot vinagrette & absolutely wonderful. We've had NZ Bluff oysters before & loved them, but very short season & hard to find here. If you are anywhere near the WG, do not miss the Coramandels!
Followed by incredible cold foie gras (very good sized portion), with rhubarb compote, reduced port wine sauce & passion fruit reduction I believe. Accompanied by a glass of Tokai wine nectar - just totally hedonistic & delicious. Had the appetizer portion of bay scallops sauteed with walnuts, accompanied by pumpkin cream - just perfect!
Lesser hits were the seafood chowder (reeked of smoked bacon) - the wonderful lobster bisque is not longer on the menu & served only by special request when you make your resv - & tall crab cake that had shredded instead of chunk crab & a red pepper aoili that just didn't work too well - Gulfstream still does these best. Can't wait to get back for more Coramandels, foie gras & scallops though... and hopefully, a 3rd visit to The Producers!
