The food is good, but not great and the place left a bad taste in my mouth. It's certainly not worth the price. The pricing of the fish "by the pound" is a total ripoff. Dinner for 4 with wine and tip...approx $350! The waiters are annoying in that they obviously, persistently and repetitively push the most expensive items and try in general to run up the bill, e.g. bottled water, expensive side dishes, etc, etc. I eat out almost every night, but I won't be returning to Avra. For this kind of money, there are many other places with superior food and service. Another review says Avra is as close as you'll get in NYC to a Greek taverna. They're correct in one way....Avra treats the locals like tourists, i.e. suckers.
