First visit. I may have caught it on a bad day, but how about this for surreal.
Ordered T-Bone steak & 3 eggs. After 10 minutes waitress returns "No 12 0z T-Bones, only 6 oz ribeyes." OK, I'll take 2 6oz ribeyes with 3 eggs instead." After 20 minutes plate arrives. Steaks look minute. I don't say anything for after waiting 30 minutes plus for food, we were both hungry. But then when the check came I realized what had happened. They didn't have 2 6oz ribeyes either. Maybe not even 1. But --either-- 1) they'd used chicken-fried-steak "steak" in 2 meager portions, or 2) they had cut the single 6oz ribeye into 2 thin 3oz cutlets. On the check they charged me for 2 $3.95 pork chops which was approximately the price ($7) of the ribeye. I know, I am confused too.
So where is Houston is a good diner? Tried this (never again) and the TelWink (ditto: did not think it great). Diner with good diner fare, quick service, and THEY HAVE IN STOCK what they have on the menu!!
An absolutely not great experience at Avalon (Stafford).
