We just got something really good in the West Village. This patisserie just opened today for business. I think they’re already tired of me. Nearly every day I’ve been popping my head in the door to find out when they’d open; so I knew something good was coming—but this is better than I expected.
Merveilleux de Fred are “low calorie” meringue pastries that are available as mini, individual & larger cakes—they are exquisite (good with champagne, or without).
I bought one of each, presented in the perfect box that displays them in all their glory—a perfect gift:
--Le Merveilleux (The Marvelous): Meringue, chocolate whipped cream coated with dark chocolate shavings.
--L’Incroyable (The Incredible): Meringue, cinnamon spiced biscuit, whipped cream coated with white chococlate shavings.
--L’Impensable (The Unbelievable): Meringue, coffee whipped cream coated with crystallized coffee meringue.
--L’Excentrique (The Eccentric): Meringue, cherry whipped cream coated with crystallized cherry meringue.
--Le Magnifique: (The Magnificent): Meringue, praline whipped cream coated with almond chips and caramelized hazelnuts.
--Le Sans Culotte (The Revolutionary): Meringue, caramel whipped cream coated with crystallized meringue.
They also have brioche.
If you want to read their website in English, go to the upper-right corner and click the British flag. (They’re already situated in London).
