A friend and I will be in NY For 2 days (sigh) in November. We'll hit the Avedon show, see the new Museum of Sex and maybe catch Bobby Short(if we're feeling sophisticated)and then head out. We're staying in the UWS - the Excelsior. I'm longing for some lovely - New York only - kind of chowhound meals.
I've been reading postings all day - everyone seems to love Anissa and Ouest. I'm drawn to Miss Mamie's Spoonbread (for it's downhome menu), Ruby Foo's (for it's kitsch and chinese)and Peter Luger but I fear they are all tourist traps. What I want is some soul satisfying food in a lovely place with some heart. Don't need hype - can't afford anything too upscale. I wanna pull down this memory from a shelf somewhere on a cold drizzly Seattle day and savor it.
Can anyone help?
