Authentic Flavors at Ethnic Restaurants

I'm really just copying and pasting a response I just posted to a month old question further down the page-

A hound was trying to get "authentic" flavored Thai food, despite the problem of being a Caucasian- Not that there's anything wrong with that!

I'd love to see more responses to the general theme, so I'll start it off with my response to his question.

"Sorry, absurdly late to this party...
While I was in school in Syracuse, NY I found good Thai was my only hope of a decent meal that didn't come on a bun. Surprisingly good and surprisingly authentic Thai food!

My Thai friend would bring a group of us with her and order for us, but she told us the magic words are:

"Native Spice"

I'm not really much of a fire breather, but I do appreciate authentic flavor."
