Central Market 39th and Lamar. Well worth a visit. I forgot to include it as a good place for a quick lunch. They have a food court with a fairly extensive menu. Lovely outdoor deck adjointing a natural pond with a walking trail. Live music on weekends. The best fresh produce, meat, seafood and cheese selection in Austin. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. They make a number of "designer" sausages in house. I keep an eye out for their meat and seafood specials. Friendly and knowledgable staff. I NEVER buy fresh fruits anymore without first sampling. I've been fooled too often by the look of an item as growers main concern is getting a fruit to the market looking as good as possible. Don't be afraid to ask any of the people in the fresh produce dept. to cut you a piece of a particular fruit. They'll be glad to. Last Friday I was there and just for kicks bought one of each of about a dozen different varieties of apples to take home and compare the taste of. I've been wanting to do that for years.
They also have a lot of unusual and hard to get grocery items and a great selection of olive oils. And last but not least a great florist.
