Austin - Three Days in February

RonnieO | Jan 18, 201702:01 PM     3

I'll be in Austin the weekend of February 17, arriving at about 4 PM on Friday night, and flying back to Chicago at about 1 PM on Monday. It'll just be my son and me. He's moving there at the beginning of February. We're particularly interested in meaty feasts. I'm not too concerned with cost, but, generally speaking, we're not fine-dining people, at least the two of us together. So far, I mainly consulted eater38's best-of Austin list, mainly because I think it has an excellent Chicago list, and so I'm hoping it's equally spot-on for Austin. I already made one reservation, for Saturday night, at Dai Due. I'm not sure if that was the right pick. Other possibilities (places that looked like they'd float our boat) are Hoffbrau Steakhouse, Lucy's Fried Chicken, and Stubb's Gospel Brunch. I'd appreciate suggestions for all meals, and for cool shopping areas, areas that, for lack of a better description, might be closer to the vibe of NYC's East Village, Nolita, etc., or Chicago's Wicker Park. Something arty and cool. Only food issue is that my son, very unusually, has always had a very bad tomato allergy. So BBQ's definitely on our radar, but, for him, there can't be anything with tomato (sauce). Thanks!!
