I have been going to Aurora's since it opened. I found the food excellent and very authentic. It went beyond most Americanized (even very good) Italian restaurants in NYC and really stuck to the true feel and taste of italy. I hadn't been there for a few months until the other week. As soon as my husband and I were seated and looked at the menu my taste buds sank. I could tell from the radiicaly changed menu and vibe in the place that the chef was gone. Sure enough while the chef was still a part owner he was no longer doing the cooking. We ordered and ate anyway but whiie it was not "bad" it was uninspired and boring (as was the menu). The pastas were lackluster and lacked that special touch that brought Italy to mind while the "special" dessert which was a chocolate polenta cake was dull, dry and I (who will eat almost anything with chocolate in it) left most of it untouched on my plate. The place was strangely quiet for a Friday night.
Has anyone else gone and had the same experience? Any hope the origonal chef will return??
