aunt jenny's bbq, etc - a quick visit

i was in torrance area for a sporting event for my daughter - it was an all day event with several breaks between games so during a 2 hour break around lunch time i decided to drive up crenshaw blvd and i would stop at the 1st bbq place that i saw - the place aunt jenny's bbq, etc - located at 12807 crenshaw, i'm the city of hawthorne - there was another bbq place in the strip mall kitty corner from aunt jenny's - i couldn't read the sign for a name but it looked like it was closed.

walk into aunt jenny's - it was damm hot !! not even a swamp cooler or a fan and as everyone knows , it was hot this weekend !! one other customer in the place. it was a combo - bbq/ chicken and waffle place. they had the usual faire - pork/beef ribs, sliced beef, links, chicken. standard sides red beans/rice, baked beans, mac/potato salad, greens, yams, slaw, mac and cheese, etc

i ordered a slab of pork ribs ( $18) and 1/2 pouind of links ( $6.95) - both with the hot bbq sauce. for daughter ( and yes, for me to try a bite - even though still low carbin right now - the mac and cheese )

i screwed up again - i keep forgeting to ask for the sauce on the side - i prefer this to get a true taste of the rib, the quality of the meat, how it was cooked, etc - in this case, it did not matter - i could tell even with the sauce - i like a strong smoky smell/taste, the pinkish color of the meat, firm yet still tender - sadly, aunt jenny's ribs didn't have any of this - i question whether or not the ribs were bbq'd - the joint had that smoker smell but i guessed the ribs were baked. the sauce was ok - definitely had some bite to it.

the links - ok - i think they were farmer john links but not sure - with the sauce, they were tasty.

i showed restraint and had only one big bite of mac and cheese - it was ok - definitely homestyle with the cheese being clumpy but it was rich so i figure there was cream used , but there wasn't really any sauce.

and yes, aunt jenny was there - she looked like an aunt jenny !!

i would've liked trying the chicken/waffles and i really wanted to try the gumbo - the bbq didn't work for me.

since i've only been once, i don't give a thumbs up or down - not sure if i'll get to this a 2nd time - if i do, i will make sure it's for a group of people so i can try the other items and try the ribs/links again to make sure it just wasn't a below average 1st trip.
