Had tried to go for Spanish wines a few weeks ago but they were sold out so made a reservation for last nite's Australian tasting. I called on Mon. to double check on the time thinking it was 6PM but was told 6:30. My friend was a bit late so I went to the bar to see if he'd gone in before me and was told the thing had been going since 6:00. Damn uninformed woman. But they were very nice and said there'd be no problem to catch us up, plus I think some people canceled cuz of the crappy weather. The sommelier Ted introduced himself, remembered my name when I left a message confirming. He was very personable filling us in on the wines. Unfortunately, I forgot the list of exactly what we had but it was a chardonnay (virgin chardonnay w/ no oak), a shiraz and a dessert wine. Matched with halibut on polenta with a yummy sauce from peas I think. Shiraz was with a pork tenderloin that was all right but I really liked the root vegetable hash served with it. Dessert was a sorbet and a yogurt pannacotta type thing that was nice and light but I think I would have preferred a more substantial item (cobbler maybe) with the sweet dessert wine. I asked for a little bread with the first two courses and they brought a basket of 4 different kinds. The price is now up to $45 (was $35) but there was definitely a substantial amount of food compared to some tastings (esp. with the big bread basket) and they're going to be adding a session during the summer. The bar area is really pleasant and it's a nice evening at the Four Seasons for about as good a deal as you'll get there.
