August Shocker

I ate a Restaurant August tonight. I had high expectations.

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is as attentive as can be (if sometimes a little awkward).

I ordered a crawfish pasta appetizer and a fish with risotto, truffles and asparagus entree.

The appetizer was terrific. It is probably in the top ten of things that have passed my lips. Large chunks of bacon, tender peas and tomatoes, fabulous cheese, fresh crawdads. Absolutel heaven!

Then the fish arrived. I had two bites and could have no more. It was so salty, I think there must have been an error in the kitchen. It was so salty that is was almost sweet. I couldn't even swallow.

AND I should add that I love, love, love salt. And I've turned back 3 dishes in my whole life. But I couldn't eat this dish for its salt, so when the waitress inquired, I was honest. I said it was far too salty. She apologized profusely and asked if I wanted the same dish less salty or something new, and I responded that I did the original order minus the salt would be great.

Then the very kind host comes over, apologizes profusely and said he's having something very special made (although I just wanted what I'd ordered, minus the salt.)

Then a lemonfish in capers arrives in front of me. Who gives someone who has complained of salt capers??

It, too, was weak and way salty. I wasn't prepared to take on dessert.

So, needless to say, I was mighty disappointed. But, if you do go, please stick with the crawdad appetizers. It's a kiler!
